The Stairs, The Escalator, and The Elevator: Three Ways Adam Moves Through Sacred Architecture

As I move through life and observe how people pursue their goals, healing, purpose, and spiritual development, I notice something interesting:

Not all progress happens in the same way.

Sometimes we push.

Sometimes we cooperate.

Sometimes we are carried.

For a long time, I have thought about these different modes of movement through a simple metaphor:

The Stairs. The Escalator. The Elevator.

The stairs represent progress through personal effort. The escalator represents personal effort cooperating with a structure already moving in the same direction. The elevator represents something more mysterious: entering an architecture capable of changing your level without requiring you to physically traverse every step between where you began and where you are going.

But when I place this metaphor inside the framework of sacred geometry and the 18-ChakraVerse, I see something deeper.

These are not merely three approaches to success.

They are three relationships between Adam and architecture.

And all three exist inside the same Building.

The Father Built the Building

Before Adam takes a single step, something already exists.

Architecture.

Genesis does not begin with Adam building the world. It begins with God establishing an ordered environment and then placing Adam within it.

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”

— Genesis 1:1

Only afterward does humanity receive dominion:

“Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion…”

— Genesis 1:26

This distinction matters.

“For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.”

— Hebrews 3:4

Adam possesses creative capacity, agency, intelligence, will, and governing authority—but Adam does not originate the classroom in which those abilities operate. As the Apostle Paul reminds us, the human builder always works within a prior divine construct:

“For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building. According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon.”

— 1 Corinthians 3:9–10

The Father establishes the architecture.

Adam learns to govern within it.

Sacred geometry gives us a visual language for contemplating that distinction.

The point.

The line.

The circle.

The Flower.

The Cube.

The axis.

Each introduces another way of understanding position, relationship, movement, structure, and dimensionality.

The Stairs, Escalator, and Elevator can therefore be understood as three ways Adam learns to move within an architecture Adam did not create.

The Stairs: Adam Discovers the Line

The stairs represent the most familiar form of progress:

I move myself.

Every step requires effort.

Lift the foot.

Place it on the next stair.

Transfer the weight.

Push upward.

Repeat.

If you stop climbing, your movement stops.

This is the realm of personal will, discipline, strength, determination, and self-governance.

Geometrically, I associate this stage with the line.

A point establishes position: I am here.

A second point establishes a destination: I want to be there.

The line establishes the path between them.

Here → There

“A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.”

— Proverbs 16:9

The traveler must now traverse the distance. That is the consciousness of the stairs:

I am here. I desire to be there. Therefore, I move.

There is nothing spiritually immature about this. Adam must learn agency. Adam must discover:

I can move.

I can choose.

I can act.

I can build.

I can change direction.

I can produce consequences.

Without this developmental stage, there can be no meaningful self-government.

The Solar Plexus: Learning Personal Power

Within the 18-ChakraVerse, the Solar Plexus Chakra corresponds naturally with the stairs.

The Solar Plexus governs personal power, determination, courage, discipline, and the ability to act on one’s own behalf. It echoes Paul’s call to conscious, disciplined exertion:

“I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection…”

— 1 Corinthians 9:26–27

It teaches Adam something essential:

You have power. Use it.

This is where we stop waiting for someone else to move our feet. We work. We practice. We study. We build. We make the phone call. We write the book. We establish the boundary. We change the habit. We take responsibility for what is within our jurisdiction.

The stairs build spiritual muscle.

But there is a limitation. If Adam assumes that all movement depends entirely upon Adam, life becomes one enormous staircase. Everything requires force. Everything requires exertion. Everything depends upon how much energy you can generate today.

Eventually, the ruler becomes exhausted. And that exhaustion may reveal something important:

Perhaps the architecture contains more than stairs.

The Escalator: Adam Encounters the Flower

Imagine climbing stairs and suddenly discovering another structure beside them.

It looks similar. There are steps. You can stand on them. You can walk upward. But something is different: The stairs themselves are moving.

You take one step, but the architecture beneath your feet contributes additional movement. Your effort has not disappeared. It has become amplified by alignment.

This is the escalator. And this is where I associate the metaphor with the Flower of Life.

From Moving Through Space to Moving With Architecture

The Flower of Life is especially significant within my framework because I use it as a symbol of the architecture of manifestation.

Adam represents conscious intention and government. Eve—the Helpmeet, Mother of All Living—represents the generative field through which intention moves toward manifestation.

Seen through this lens, the escalator becomes an extraordinary metaphor. Adam walks. The architecture moves. Adam does not become passive; the architecture does not eliminate Adam’s responsibility. Instead, two movements become synchronized.

“Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”

— Amos 3:3

This is alignment. Alignment is not merely feeling peaceful. Alignment is not getting everything we want. Alignment is not waiting for supernatural intervention. Alignment occurs when Adam’s movement agrees with the movement of the larger architecture:

“If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

— Galatians 5:25

The traveler is walking upward. The escalator is moving upward. The result is compounded movement—much like Paul described the cooperative nature of generative growth:

“I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.”

— 1 Corinthians 3:6–7

The Heart and High Heart: Learning Cooperation

This is why the Heart and High Heart Chakras fit naturally into the escalator stage.

The Solar Plexus teaches: I can act.

The heart centers begin teaching: I can act in relationship.

Life no longer consists only of my strength, my strategy, my determination, and my ability to force outcomes. I begin listening. I notice timing. I recognize relationships. I pay attention to what opens and what repeatedly closes. I become aware of currents larger than my immediate desire.

I still move—but I become more discerning about what I am moving with. This is where effort begins cooperating with Spirit. Jesus gives us an extraordinary image of this principle:

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me…”

— Matthew 11:29

A yoke is not inactivity. It is coordinated movement. The question is no longer simply: Can I pull? It becomes: What am I yoked to?

When direction and architecture agree, effort produces movement far beyond what raw exertion could accomplish alone:

“Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.”

— Colossians 1:29

The stairs taught Adam strength.

The escalator teaches Adam cooperation.

The Elevator: Adam Enters the Cube

Then we encounter something completely different.

The elevator.

You enter a chamber. The doors close. You choose a destination. And then something remarkable happens:

You stop walking.

Yet you continue moving.

This is why I associate the elevator with the Cube. The elevator does not merely provide a path through space. It creates an enclosed environment capable of moving its occupant from one level to another. You are no longer climbing across the architecture. You are inside the architecture.

And for a period of time, you may not even be able to see what is happening outside. That changes the spiritual lesson completely.

Faith Is Trust in Architecture

The elevator requires a different kind of confidence than the stairs.

On the stairs, I can see my feet. I can see the next step. I can measure my effort. I can count my progress.

The elevator removes much of that evidence. The doors close. The mechanism disappears behind walls. The traveler may feel movement, but cannot see the machinery producing it.

That is an entirely different experience. Faith, in this sense, becomes something more precise than simply hoping something good will happen. Faith is trust in architecture when the mechanism of movement is hidden. Hebrews describes faith this way:

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

— Hebrews 11:1

Not seen does not mean nonexistent. Invisible does not mean inactive. And unknown to Adam does not mean unknown to God.

The Veil Chakra: Recognizing Invisible Architecture

This is where the Veil Chakra becomes essential. The Veil governs discernment around what appears to be reality and what lies beneath appearances.

At the stairs, Adam trusts what Adam can physically do.

At the escalator, Adam recognizes cooperation between personal movement and a larger current.

At the elevator, Adam must confront a much more difficult possibility:

Movement may be occurring that Adam cannot presently observe.

This changes how we understand seasons of apparent inactivity. You prayed. You listened. You acted where action was appropriate. And now—nothing. No visible movement. No obvious opening. No immediate confirmation.

The old Solar Plexus response may be: Do something. Climb harder. Push another door. Make another plan. Create another strategy.

Yet in moments of divine transition, the instruction is often the opposite:

“Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord… The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”

— Exodus 14:13–14

Sometimes the reason you cannot find the next stair is simple:

You aren’t on the staircase anymore.

You are in the elevator.

The Crown Chakra: Trusting the Architect

The Veil allows Adam to recognize that unseen architecture exists. The Crown Chakra introduces another dimension: Who established it?

For me, this is where the metaphor must ultimately return to the Father. The elevator is not an argument for surrendering ourselves to some undefined universe. Adam exists within an architecture Adam did not originate.

There are laws Adam did not write.

There are rhythms Adam did not establish.

There are relationships between cause and consequence that existed before Adam understood them.

There are dimensions of Original Design Adam is still discovering.

The Crown therefore asks Adam to remember the distinction between ruler and Architect. Adam has dominion within the classroom. Adam is not the Father who established the classroom. Faith becomes the willingness to govern responsibly without requiring ourselves to be the source of the entire system.

The Elevator and the Vertical Axis

There is another sacred-geometric feature of the elevator that fascinates me.

The axis.

An elevator primarily moves vertically. Above. Below. Higher. Lower.

“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above… Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”

— Colossians 3:1–2

This gives us another way to contemplate the chakra system itself. The 18 chakras can be understood as centers distributed along and beyond the human vertical axis, representing different dimensions of consciousness, governance, perception, relationship, and spiritual development.

Perhaps, then, spiritual development is not always about traveling farther horizontally. Sometimes it is about occupying another level of the architecture.

That is what an elevator does. It can take you from one floor to another without requiring you to walk the horizontal distance normally associated with travel. The location changes because the level changes.

This may explain some of the sudden shifts we experience in life. For months, nothing seems different. Then suddenly you understand something you could not understand before. A pattern becomes visible. An old desire disappears. A relationship looks completely different. A solution that had been invisible becomes obvious.

You may not have traveled very far externally.

But internally: You changed floors.

Conscious Rest: Movement Without Climbing

This gives us a different way to understand rest. Rest is not always cessation. Sometimes rest occurs inside movement.

Anyone who has ridden an elevator understands this immediately. Your legs are doing nothing, but you are not stationary. That distinction matters spiritually.

“In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength…”

— Isaiah 30:15

There are seasons when we need the stairs. There are seasons when we should walk the escalator. And there are seasons when additional exertion would contribute nothing because the architecture itself is accomplishing the transition. This is conscious rest.

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

— Psalm 46:10

Stillness does not necessarily mean that nothing is happening. It may simply mean:

Adam is not the mechanism currently producing the movement.

One Building, Three Lawful Mechanisms

This brings me to what may be the most important part of the metaphor.

The stairs, escalator, and elevator can all exist inside the same building. They are not competing systems. The stairs are not bad because an elevator exists. The escalator is not evidence that someone who takes the stairs has failed. And taking the elevator does not make someone more spiritually advanced than the person currently climbing.

The prophet Isaiah captured these exact modes of progression within a single breath:

“They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles [the elevator]; they shall run, and not be weary [the escalator]; and they shall walk, and not faint [the stairs].”

— Isaiah 40:31

Each mechanism has a purpose. Wisdom is recognizing which mechanism the present moment requires:

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”

— Ecclesiastes 3:1

This changes the question completely. Instead of asking: Which way is the spiritual way? I can ask:

What mechanism within the Father’s architecture is lawful for this moment?

Sometimes the answer will be: Work.

Sometimes: Align.

Sometimes: Wait.

Sometimes: Rest.

Sometimes: Move now.

Spiritual maturity is not choosing one mechanism and turning it into a universal law. It is developing sufficient discernment to recognize where you are.

From Line to Flower to Cube

Sacred geometry gives us a beautiful language for understanding the progression:

• The Line — Agency: I can move. Adam discovers direction, intention, action, and personal power. This is the lesson of the Stairs.
• The Flower — Cooperation: I can move in relationship with architecture. Adam discovers that manifestation is not merely force. Movement can become amplified when conscious action aligns with the generative field. This is the lesson of the Escalator.
• The Cube — Architectural Trust: I can remain conscious and governed even when the architecture is producing movement I cannot see. Adam learns that rest does not always mean stagnation and invisibility does not mean absence. This is the lesson of the Elevator.

Together they produce a developmental movement:

AGENCY ➡ COOPERATION ➡ ARCHITECTURAL TRUST

Or, in simpler language:

I move. We move. I allow myself to be moved.

The 18-ChakraVerse as a Building

This also gives me another way to contemplate the 18-ChakraVerse.

Perhaps the chakras are not simply isolated energetic centers. They can also be understood as departments, chambers, levels, gates, and governing functions within an ordered inner architecture.

The question is not merely: Which chakra is open?

A more useful question may be: Where am I operating from, and what does this level require of me?

• The Solar Plexus may require action.
• The Heart may require cooperation.
• The Veil may require discernment.
• The Crown may require reception.
• The Covenant may require decision.
• The Logos may require embodied expression.

Different levels. Different functions. One architecture.

Adam’s Curriculum Is Learning to Govern Adam

The stairs teach Adam that Adam possesses power.

The escalator teaches Adam that power works differently when brought into alignment.

The elevator teaches Adam that alignment sometimes requires enough trust to stop interfering with a process already underway.

All three lessons matter because Adam’s curriculum is not simply learning how to get somewhere. Adam’s curriculum is learning to govern Adam.

When should I exert?

When should I cooperate?

When should I wait?

When should I speak?

When should I become silent?

When should I build?

When should I allow what has already been built to carry me?

That is governance. And perhaps this is one of the purposes sacred geometry can serve: it reminds us that creation is not merely a collection of objects. It is architecture.

The Question Is Not Whether You Are Moving

There will be moments when life feels like an endless staircase. Climb. Push. Build. Learn. Try again.

There will be other moments when something changes. The right relationship appears. The right idea arrives. The current turns. Suddenly your effort travels farther than it did before. You have stepped onto the escalator.

And then there may be strange seasons when the doors close. The familiar landmarks disappear. You cannot see the staircase. You cannot see the destination. You may even wonder whether anything is happening.

But perhaps the question is not: Why am I not moving?

Perhaps the better question is: What if I am moving differently?

The stairs require strength.

The escalator requires alignment.

The elevator requires trust.

But all three belong to the Building. And the Building existed before Adam discovered any of them.

The Father established the architecture.

Adam received dominion within it.

Now Adam must learn how to move through it.

Sometimes we climb.

Sometimes we cooperate with the current.

Sometimes we enter the chamber, let the doors close, and trust the architecture to change our level.

The wisdom is knowing which one we are standing in today.
