The Stairs, The Escalator, and The Elevator

Three Ways We Move Through Life

As I move through life and observe how people pursue their goals, their healing, and their purpose, I notice something interesting: not all progress happens in the same way. Some people struggle and push relentlessly. Others seem to move with a current that carries them forward. And sometimes, progress happens even when a person is resting.

Over time, I began to think of this in a simple metaphor that helps explain the different ways we navigate life. I call it The Stairs, The Escalator, and The Elevator. Each represents a different relationship between effort, alignment, and faith. Understanding the difference between them can change how we approach our work, our spiritual life, and our journey toward our goals.

The Stairs: Progress by Personal Effort Alone

The stairs symbolize the most common way people try to move through life: through effort alone.

When you climb stairs, every step requires energy. If you stop climbing, your progress stops as well. There is no assistance from the system itself. The momentum is entirely yours.

Many people live their lives in this mode. They rely solely on discipline, strategy, and hard work. They may not seek spiritual guidance, inner alignment, or deeper reflection. Their progress depends entirely on how much effort they can produce.

There is value in the stairs. Climbing them builds strength, determination, and resilience. It teaches responsibility and self-reliance. But the stairs also have limits. When you rely only on personal effort, progress becomes exhausting. Burnout becomes common. And when you stop to rest, everything pauses.

The stairs represent a life where the burden of success feels like it rests entirely on your shoulders.

The Escalator: Effort in Alignment with Spirit

The escalator introduces a different experience. You are still walking. You are still putting in effort. But now the system itself is already moving upward.

When you step onto an escalator and walk, your steps carry you twice as far because the structure itself is helping you move.

This is what happens when effort becomes aligned with spiritual guidance.

In this mode, you are still working toward your goals, but you are also listening to intuition, building supportive routines, practicing spiritual awareness, and paying attention to the signs and currents of life. Your actions become synchronized with something greater than personal willpower.

I often think of it like finding a tide moving in the same direction as the boat you are sailing. Yes, you still row. Yes, you still navigate. But the water itself is carrying you forward.

When a person reaches this stage, their effort becomes compounded. Opportunities appear more naturally. The right people cross their path. Ideas arrive at the right moment. What once felt like constant uphill climbing begins to feel like forward flow.

The escalator is the space where work and spirit cooperate.

The Elevator: Progress Through Faith and Trust

Then there is the elevator.

The elevator represents something many people struggle to trust: progress that happens even while you are resting.

When you enter an elevator, you do not climb. You do not exert effort step by step. You simply choose your destination, press the button, and trust the system to carry you there.

Spiritually speaking, the elevator represents the moments when the unseen forces of life are working in your favor. Your role becomes simpler: you clarify your intention, trust the process, and allow movement to happen.

This does not mean doing nothing in life. Instead, it means recognizing that there are seasons when the most powerful action is faithful rest.

Sometimes stepping back allows the spiritual world to arrange the circumstances ahead of you. Insights arrive. Paths open. Opportunities appear that you could not have forced through effort alone.

The elevator reminds us that not all progress requires struggle.

The Power of Conscious Rest

One of the most powerful aspects of the elevator is the idea of consciously allowing yourself time off. When people rest without faith, they often feel anxious. They worry they are falling behind or losing momentum.

But when rest is combined with trust, it becomes a different experience entirely.

In this state, you understand that life is still moving you forward even when you are not actively pushing. Faith becomes the mechanism that continues the journey.

You rest knowing that tomorrow you may wake up closer to your destination than you were yesterday, even though you were not climbing every step along the way.

Learning When to Use Each Path

The truth is that life requires all three modes.

Sometimes we must climb the stairs to build strength and discipline. Sometimes we step onto the escalator by aligning our actions with spiritual awareness. And sometimes we enter the elevator, trusting that the unseen currents of life are working on our behalf.

Wisdom comes from knowing which mode the moment requires.

If we try to climb stairs when the escalator is available, we exhaust ourselves unnecessarily. If we refuse to trust the elevator when life is inviting us to rest, we miss the deeper rhythm of progress.

Life is not always about pushing harder. Sometimes it is about learning to move with the system that already exists around us.

Moving Forward with Faith

When we understand the difference between the stairs, the escalator, and the elevator, we begin to approach life differently. Effort still matters. Discipline still matters. But we also begin to recognize the power of alignment and the quiet strength of faith.

Progress is not always loud or exhausting. Sometimes it is steady and supported. Sometimes it is guided by unseen currents. And sometimes it happens quietly while we rest.

The key is learning to recognize where we are—and trusting that there is more than one way to reach the next level of the journey.

Chakra Alignment: The Spiritual Energy Behind the Stairs, the Escalator, and the Elevator

When I reflect on the symbolism of the stairs, the escalator, and the elevator, I also notice how closely this idea mirrors the way energy moves through the human body. In my 18-chakra system, these three modes of progress correspond to different stages of energetic maturity. Each stage reflects how we relate to effort, alignment, and faith.

Understanding the chakra dynamics behind this model reveals that the journey from struggle to flow to trust is not just psychological—it is energetic.

The Solar Plexus Chakra — The Stairs of Personal Will

The Solar Plexus Chakra governs personal power, determination, and the ability to act on our own behalf. It is the center where we learn discipline, self-reliance, and responsibility for our direction in life.

This chakra aligns naturally with the stairs.

Climbing stairs requires strength and persistence. Every step upward is powered by your own energy. If you stop climbing, the movement stops as well. In the same way, when the Solar Plexus chakra is the primary energy driving our life, progress depends largely on our willpower and effort.

This stage is important because it builds inner authority. Without a strong Solar Plexus, we lack the courage to pursue our goals or take responsibility for our path. The stairs teach us that we have the capacity to move forward through determination and action.

But if we rely only on this energy center, life can begin to feel like a constant uphill climb.

The Heart and High Heart Chakras — The Escalator of Alignment

The escalator represents a shift from effort alone to effort that is supported by alignment.

This stage corresponds to the Heart Chakra and the High Heart Chakra.

When these centers begin to guide our actions, we no longer operate solely through personal will. Instead, our decisions begin to harmonize with deeper guidance, compassion, and intuition. Relationships become meaningful sources of support. Synchronicities appear. Opportunities arise that feel almost perfectly timed.

Walking on an escalator illustrates this beautifully. You are still moving forward and doing your part, but the structure itself is already rising beneath your feet. Your effort becomes amplified.

Energetically, the heart centers teach us that life does not have to be fought. It can be cooperated with.

This is where work and spirit begin to move together.

The Veil Chakra — The Elevator of Faith

The elevator represents the most mysterious stage of progress. In this mode, movement can happen even while we rest.

Within the 18-chakra system, this stage aligns strongly with the Veil Chakra, the energy center associated with perceiving the unseen architecture of reality.

The Veil Chakra is the threshold where illusion dissolves and deeper truth becomes visible. When this center awakens, we begin to recognize that life operates through systems and currents that are not always visible to the physical eye.

The elevator reflects this understanding perfectly.

Instead of climbing step by step, you simply choose the destination, press the button, and trust the mechanism to carry you there. Spiritually, this represents faith in the invisible structure of life.

There are seasons when rest, trust, and clarity of intention move us further than relentless effort ever could.

The Veil Chakra teaches us that the universe itself contains pathways that can lift us when we allow them to.

The Crown Chakra — Trusting the Destination

Supporting the elevator stage is the Crown Chakra, the center of spiritual connection and surrender to divine intelligence.

While the Veil Chakra reveals the hidden mechanisms that guide life, the Crown Chakra provides the trust that the destination itself is guided by wisdom greater than the ego.

When this chakra is active, we understand that our journey is not random. There is an intelligence moving through existence, and our role is to align with it.

This trust allows us to step into the elevator without fear.

The Energetic Path of Progress

Seen through the lens of chakra energy, the Stairs–Escalator–Elevator model becomes a map of spiritual development:

  • Solar Plexus teaches us how to act.
  • Heart and High Heart teach us how to align.
  • Veil and Crown teach us how to trust.

Together, these centers show us that progress does not come from effort alone. It emerges from the balance between will, alignment, and faith.

When these energies work together, life no longer feels like a constant climb. Instead, we begin to recognize the systems already designed to lift us forward.

The journey becomes less about forcing our way upward and more about learning how the universe itself was built to carry us.
